Used Book Drive/Sale

NEHS is sponsoring a used book drive from Nov. 5th through Dec. 7th. We are collecting used books of any genre and we will be hosting a used book sale on a weekend in December. The profits from the sale will go to NEHS, and the unsold books will go to a local charity we can all vote on. Please bring all book donations to Room 614 or T-10. Don't forget every book you bring in is worth 1 point! Also, we are looking for volunteers to help sort books, label, and help with the sale. All these positions are also worth NEHS points - if you are interested in helping out, please see Catherine, Dianne, or either sponsor at the next meeting. Start brining in your books!

Induction Ceremony and Movie Day!
The Induction Ceremony was last night and it went fantastic! We would like to thank Mrs. Nelson for the wonderful and delicious cake, and for speaking on the history of the NEHS and the "Power of One". We would also like to thank Ms. Siebenbruner for speaking on leadership and following through on things you love, despite obstacles (also for turning off the fire alarm!). Finally, we would like to thank all the members who attended! You guys all did great and we are glad to have 42 new members to NEHS!
Today is Movie Day after school. According to the online poll, we will be watching Pride and Prejudice. We already have tons of snacks left from last night, so be sure to stop by Room 614 and join us for our movie of the month!
Also, don't forget next Wednesday (10/31 - Halloween) is the last day we can accept fundraiser money and orders! Please drop them by Room 614 or T-10 before 2:30pm. Our next general meeting is November 7th - plan on attending!

Letter from Mrs. Olsen and Mrs. Lusher - with update
Dear Members of NEHS,
We hope this letter finds you happy, healthy, and excited about your progress report grades! A couple of days ago, we collected all money and order forms for our fundraiser. It was disappointing that only 11 members participated by turning in their forms and money. We would like to congratulate those who did contribute, with Irma Rashid, Justin Yale, and Chelsea Flieger bringing in single orders all over $60. Irma is our top seller - with sales totaling almost $300! Currently, we have raised $836. We know some people still are collecting money from people and need to get them in to us this week. A couple of people have come by today with orders and money.
Because participation was so low - we have decided to extend the sale until the end of the month. We need to reach our $2500 goal! As your sponsors, we are willing to throw a pizza party for all members who sell a minimum of $50 total. Several of those who sold have met this goal. We know some of you are having trouble selling, so here are some tips from our top sellers to help you out:
Tip #1 - Leave the catalog with your soon-to-be customer for an extended period of time. It is a large catalog and it takes time to look through everything. If it sits on their dining table or desk for multiple hours, they will be more inclined to look and purchase. Once someone has thoroughly looked at the jewelry - it will sell itself. (Mrs. Olsen has taken one to a teacher work room today and is waiting to see the results).
Tip #2 - This jewelry is a little pricey for your friends, right? Make sure to ask your teachers (especially the women) or other school personnel. Also, ask your parents to bring it to work with them, or take it by your neighbors' houses. Several teachers have shown an interest, so there are still people out there who would like to look at a catalog.
Tip #3 - The holidays are coming up! Point out to customers what great presents these would make for a sister, girlfriend, mother, grandmother, daughter, etc.
After what happened with the Shakespeare Tavern - 48 people signing up and 9 people attending - we are concerned about members' dedication. Should we continue to plan activities and trips if only a few will participate? If you are wishing to belong to the NEHS for the graduation cord or as something to put on your college transcript - you have joined for the wrong reasons. Sorry for the harshness, we do love you all and will continue working as hard as we have been for you, but is disappointing to see such a lackadaisical response from the majority of students to activities this early in the year. Hopefully, we will have 100% participation next week at the Induction Rehearsal (Wed.) and Ceremony (Thurs.). By the way, the Induction Rehearsal will be held in the courtyard between the theater and the 600-900 buildings at 2:20 pm. Continue to invite friends and family to join us for this special occasion.
We have some wonderful things planned for this year and will be sharing them with you next Wednesday, October 24. We are glad to see so many people signed up for Movie Day on Oct. 26th, and many have voted online for the movie we will be showing. Don't forget to sign-up if haven't yet. Remember that being inducted to the NEHS as a member does not guarantee retention of membership, participation in activities and services is required to maintain membership.
Again, thanks to those of you who sold and have turned in your money and forms. If you need more forms or catalogs, please see Mrs. Lusher. All money and order forms will be due Wed., Oct. 31st at 2:30. That is the absolute drop-dead last time for you to turn things in. Please continue to sell - or start to sell - we know you can do it!
Mrs. Lusher has sold $120 in orders - so it can be done!
Thanks,
Mrs. Julie Lusher and Mrs. Janan Olsen

Things to remember in the coming weeks...
ALL fundraiser money is due Oct. 17th by 2:30pm to Room 614 or T-10. Everyone needs to sell at least one piece! Ask your teachers, neighbors, family members, etc. Other members have found that leaving the catalog for an extended time (example: leaving it with a teacher and picking it up at the end of the day) will result in more sales. The more you sell - the less we will have to pay for later. Don't forget the fabulous prizes for the top sellers!
We have 15 people going to Shakespeare Tavern on Sunday, Oct. 14th at 5:15. We had to return the remainder of the tickets we had reserved. If you would still like to go, you may purchase your ticket online at www.shakespearetavern.com and meet us there. The cost for students is $12. You will still receive points for attending. If you are attending and need a ride, please email Mrs. Lusher or Mrs. Olsen.
Don't forget to vote on our movie for Movie Day at our website www.ngnehs.blogspot.com! Also, make sure to sign-up for Movie Day in T-10. Movie Day will be Friday, Oct. 26th at 2:30 in Room 614.
Also on the website is a poll for you to vote on which afternoon you would like NEHS meetings held. Please vote so that we may change or keep the meeting day convenient for everyone!
Induction Practice is MANDATORY for all new members (returning members also welcome). It will be held on Oct. 24th at 2:20 in the Commons Area.
The Induction Ceremony is Oct. 25th at 7pm in the Commons Area (members should arrive 10-15 minutes early). Please invite your parents. All members new and old are required to attend. Please see Mrs. Lusher or Mrs. Olsen if you are unable to attend. This will count for 10 points. Professional attire is required.
We are working on a calendar of events for the entire school year. Please email Mrs. Lusher or Mrs. Olsen with any suggestions of activities you think would be fun. Also, email us any fundraising ideas for our Spring fundraiser!
Be on the lookout for information on how to order your 2007-2008 NEHS t-shirt. We will email the information out as soon as the final price has been decided.
Have a fantastic 3 day weekend!
