T-shirt Sneak Peek

We were given a small sneak peek at this year's NEHS shirt today....

Shirt orders were completed this week and all new members will be receiving a short-sleeved t-shirt. Returning members and new members were given the option to purchase long-sleeved t-shirts and hoodies, which will be the same design and colors.

All shirts will be ready for pick-up beginning after school next Friday, in T-10!
On various days throughout the year we ask NEHS members to wear their shirt and promote NEHS school wide. You would be surprised what an impact 120 students all wear the same shirt can make! The first day we will all wear our shirts is Friday, Sept. 11th. This is the night after our induction ceremony and will demonstrate the unity we all will share. Spread the word!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to another great year at NGHS! Your sponsors and officers already have a great year planned for you! Make sure you pick up a flier on Open House night from your English teacher or stop by T-10, T-3, or T-4.

We will have our information meeting on Monday, August 17th at 2:30 in T-10. This is when the officers and sponsors will address all questions and go over the requirements. The applications will also be given out. This meeting will last about 30 minutes due to the amount of information we have to give you.

We will have our first official NEHS meeting the following Monday, August 24th at 2:30 in T-10. This meeting will be very short and we will be collecting money and applications and taking t-shirt orders. Most likely it will be over by 2:45pm.

We are also very excited to announce our speaker series for this fall. We have many prominent professionals from around Atlanta coming to speak once a month on their profession and how it relates to English/Literature/Speaking/Writing/Etc. These speaker series are MANDATORY (like your induction ceremony) events. You must clear your schedule now for these once a month events. They will last approx. 30 minutes - 1 hour (depending on the speaker). If for some reason you can not attend, please see one of the sponsors to be excused.

Our August Speaker Series will be on Monday, August 31st at 2:30pm, location TBA. The speaker will be Matt Felten from the Shakespeare Tavern. You may remember him as Hamlet, Puck, or Tiny Tim from last year's performances we attended. He will be speaking on his career and he will have an extended Q & A session.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you very soon!

Hamlet

Last Friday, NEHS went on a trip to see Hamlet at Shakespeare's Tavern!

Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's most notable works, so seeing it on stage was a great experience, especially watching it be performed by actors we were already familiar with through A Midsummer Night's Dream and A Christmas Carol.

Overall, the play was fantastic and everyone had a lot of fun.
Here are some pictures! :)

Farewell, Hello~

Dear NEHS members,

I want to thank you all for making another great year

at NEHS.

As a member-at-large, I was able to take on the responsibilities

of being an officer of this organization.

But most of all, I take with me from this year,

all the wonderful memories of outings, celebrations, and

laughter we shared together.

I hope it was the same for you too.

_

Also, as the new NEHS President,

I say hello to you.

I hope to make the 2009-2010 school year

another exciting year at NEHS with all the support

and help from the new officers and members.

If you have any concerns, questions, or comments,

please do not hesitate to contact me!

Thank you,

Seo-Eva Kim

Sidewalk Poetry

In case you haven't heard...April is National Poetry Month!

In celebrating this great month NEHS completed a Sidewalk Poetry project. For two afternoons NEHS members picked out their favorite poems and copied (and illustrated!) them on the sidewalks of the school.

OPERATION SCRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey NEHS!!!
Our school and the Gwinnett community is participating in an exciting and
meaningful event this year!!
It's called OPERATION SCRAP- helping Iraqi school children get their
necessary school supplies.
The terrorists in Samarra, Iraq have destroyed many schools, and the
U.S. army there has been building back some.
But the children do not have school supplies to work with.
So, one of the Lieutenant officers native of Gwinnettt County asked
us to help out.
North Gwinnett High School decided to adopt 1000 kids to support,
and it asks ALL organizations and clubs to adopt children.

Each child needs:

-4 pencils
-2 pens
-1 pack of erasers
-1 notebook
- 1 pack of lined paper

This is not much~ We can definitely support a lot of kids!

I will give you guys more info. on our Jan 26th mtg.
But this will be our big NEHS community service project,
so look out for OPERATION SCRAP~~~

Thanks,

Seo Kim

Hey Guys!

As part of NEHS, you must all be very dedicated English students, right? :D

Well, many of the classes you take require for you to read certain novels. There are many ways to find free reading sources. Below are a few websites where you can access FREE books online. These books are usually classics, like books by Charles Dickens, Jules Verne, Joseph Conrad, and George Orwell. They have many more than that though!

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and winter break. I enjoyed spending some time with my family in Florida and managed to visit Orlando, Crystal River, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami. I am now rested and ready to begin the 2nd semester!

I would like to welcome back all returning members and congratulate those of you who earned 100 points 1st semester and are in good standing with the organization. Those of you who did not earn 100 points and would like to retain your membership have some work to do! I also would like to welcome the new members who turned in their applications in December. We will be inducting these members soon and look forward to seeing them at our meeting and activities!

We have many ideas about what we will be doing this semester, but welcome your input! Please leave a comment if you have an idea of something we can do, or some place we can go! Shortly, I will be posting the spring calendar, so keep an eye out.
